Feminist Interview

Researcher Reflections

This is probably where I feel the most comfortable in terms of framing interview questions. The feminist in me tells me that we are having a conversation, we are sharing information, and we are creating a dialogue instead of the researcher firing questions unilaterally. But I don't want to create a straw person argument either, because there are many interviewers who adopt a feminist style of interview, yet do not work in the feminist framework.

I think that the feminist framework is taken up differently by different people. While I know that situated within this framework, the power sharing is never equal as I am still in the driver's seat with my research purposes and my questions, this kind of interview allows me to take a relaxed approach to information gathering and effectively puts the participant at ease.

For the purposes of this interview, I approached the task as sharing our experiences in writing, moments of inspiration, the process through which creativity happened. I kept in mind my research purpose, which is reflected through the probes, however, I shared much more of myself in this interview than in the others.
