Qualitative Research MethodsDr. Kakali Bhattacharya

Welcome to the Qualitative Research Methods at the University of Memphis.
This site was first developed out of a Technology Access Funds grant awarded by the University of Memphis, Advanced Learning Center in 2005/2006 academic year. Now a year later, qualitative methods have grown to two classes, technlogy integrated research projects, and have become cross listed as methods courses in Psychology.
In Spring of 2007, we held our first annual qualitative methods open house, with President Shirley Raines and Provost Ralph Faudree in attendance. Their encouragement and emphasis of qualitative research methods and interdisciplinary methods was an important message for students, faculty, and administration and we thank them for their support. Another first for qualitative methods was student participation at the 3rd International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry at Urbana, Champaign from May 3-5, 2007. Students from Advanced Qualitative Methods class prepared individual papers and presented their papers through performances and integration of multimedia. Their presentations were well received and their abstracts were blind peer reviewed and published in the conference proceedings. Students formed the first ever qualitative student group, Qualitative Research Advancement Congress (QRAC) with an increasing membership. This summer (2007), we are going on a writing retreat to a state park to write up our qualitative data for publication or for dissertation. So lets keep this momentum going and feel free to contact me with any suggestions you have. Thank you to faculty, students, administration, and community members for all of your support.
